Speedster Showdown Maps and Rotations
Vote windows, geometry, and fight advice for Green Hill, Marble, Cove, and the rest of the pool.
Speedster Showdown fights on a small pool of PvP stages that the lobby votes. The clock is about every 30 minutes. Voting the map you are already on delays the change, which is how sweaty rooms camp Green Hill or Tails Doll Cove for a whole session. Learn the vote, then learn the geometry. A perfect combo that ignores a waterfall or a portal is a highlight for the other player.
This is online PvP, not a private instance. Other fighters share the space. Third parties are a map mechanic. If you only lab in empty servers, Cove will feel unfair and Marble will feel cramped. Use Getting Started to find quieter rooms, then come back here before you blame your kit.
The Knight of the Wind update also touched map rotations. If a name vanished from the wheel, check that patch before you swear the wiki is stale. Stardust Speedway is already gone. Speedster Zone is unavailable. Easter Hill is WIP. Starved Lair is exclusive.
How voting works
When the timer hits, the lobby gets a choice. Picking the current map stretches the stay. Picking a different stage queues the swap. There is no hidden ranked veto. If you need Green Hill for dash practice, vote it and ask in chat; if the room wants Cove, hop. Sitting through 30 minutes of a map you cannot read is worse than a 20-second teleport.
Use the delay rule when you are learning. A held Green Hill is a free classroom: hills, waterfall bridge, wooden spawn. A held Cove is a stress test. A held Marble is wall practice. Vote with intent, not with the thumbnail you like.
Green Hill Zone
Classic hills, a waterfall bridge, and a wooden spawn. This is the best classroom in the pool. High ground wins M1 exchanges because uppercut and downslam care about slope. The bridge is a dash-stun highway and a death pit if you Q+W with no plan. The wooden spawn is a landmark: if you respawn there, look up before you run back in.
Fight advice:
- Take the hill, do not chase under it.
- Block on the bridge; a tap F plus a dash is a swim.
- Uppercut toward grass, not toward water.
- Third parties come from the opposite slope. Check it between stocks.
If you are still learning controls, stay here as long as the vote allows.
Marble Zone
Large in footprint, cramped in fights. Walls and interior lines steal dash distance and eat careless uppercuts. You will hit geometry with Metallic Rush, Shade Dive puddles, and any lock-on that assumed Green Hill’s open sky. Shorten routes. Three M1s plus a special beats a seven-hit you will lose to a pillar.
Fight advice:
- Dash less, walk more into range, then dash once.
- Do not pop awakenings in a corridor unless you have already seen evasive.
- Starved-style loops get nastier here because there is nowhere to run. Hold F and wait for the gap, or you loop until you die.
- The size tricks people into thinking they are safe. They are not. Rotate with a purpose or you arrive late to a 1v1 that is already a 1v2.
Tails Doll Cove
Biggest map. Sonic R Radical City vibe: red and black checker, tracks, portals, coins. This is where sessions go to die to third parties. You can win a fair convert and still eat a dash from a portal you did not watch. Camera plus portals is the real boss.
Fight advice:
- Assume a third fighter exists. Play near a wall you can put your back to, not in the open checker.
- Do not chase through a portal unless you saw them go in. You will load in on someone else.
- Tracks are movement and a hazard. Q+W on a track without a landing is a gift.
- Coins and set dressing are bait for people who stop holding F.
- Pop awakenings only if you can see two angles. Cutscenes are a dinner bell.
Cove is a terrible classroom and a great exam. Take it after Green Hill and Marble make sense.
HILL
A tighter, more vertical cousin of the Green Hill idea. Height still matters. There is less sightseeing and more falling. Treat every uppercut as a question: where do they land? If the answer is off the stage, you have a kill. If the answer is on your head, you have a trade you did not want. Vote HILL when you want to practice vertical dash, not when you want to AFK.
Baseplate Spire
Spare geometry, long sightlines, a spire to fight around. Boost / forward attack (Q+W) matters here because the walk is long and people snipe approaches. Do not empty-dash across the plate. Hold F through projectile space, then dash once when you have a real turn. Awakenings on the spire look cinematic and lose to anyone who just walks around the pillar.
WIP, unavailable, exclusive, removed
- Easter Hill — work in progress. Do not build a main around it.
- Speedster Zone — unavailable. If an old clip shows it, that is archive footage.
- Starved Lair — exclusive. If you load in, you are in a special rule set; fight Starved’s space, not Green Hill habits.
- Stardust Speedway — removed. Stop voting for a ghost. Rotation changes around Knight of the Wind are documented on the KOTW update page.
Fight habits that transfer
- Look at height before you uppercut.
- Look at a second nameplate before you spend awakening.
- Vote delays are a tool. Use them to keep a classroom or to escape one.
- Geometry is a combo resource. Lab Metal and Mephiles puddles on Marble, not only in the lobby.
- After a patch, re-read updates before you claim a map is “gone forever” — except Stardust Speedway, which is actually gone. Pair rotation notes with the roster and tier list when a stage changes who is easy to play. Codes will not flatten Cove’s portals.
When the wheel is against you, hop. When the wheel is Green Hill and you still lose, that is binds and routing, not the stage. Go back to the combat hub, the cheatsheet, and one matchup for whoever owns the bridge. Maps amplify skill. They do not replace it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
How often do maps change in Speedster Showdown?
Lobbies vote about every 30 minutes. Voting the current map delays the swap, so rooms can camp a stage on purpose.
Which map should beginners practice on?
Green Hill Zone. Hills, the waterfall bridge, and the wooden spawn teach dash angles without Cove's portals and third parties.
Why is Tails Doll Cove so chaotic?
It is the biggest stage: Radical City vibe, checker floor, tracks, portals, coins. Extra fighters collapse on every convert.
Is Stardust Speedway or Speedster Zone in the rotation?
Stardust Speedway was removed. Speedster Zone is unavailable. Easter Hill is still WIP. Starved Lair is exclusive.
Did Knight of the Wind change maps?
Yes. That patch included map rotation work. Read the Knight of the Wind update if a name disappeared from the vote.
