Speedster Showdown Matchup Planner
Four jobs, map-size modifiers, and a notepad you fill before a 25-player PvP queue.
This planner is a way to think about Speedster Showdown matchups after the 26 July 2025 revival and the late-2025 Knight of the Wind drop. It is not a living ELO sheet and it is not a copy of the Tier List Hub. Tiers answer who is strong. This page answers what job a kit is doing to you, and whether the current map is helping that job. Fill it before you queue. Update it after one set. Stop there.
The four jobs that cover most of this roster are rushdown, setplay, grappler, and zoner. Knight of the Wind and Infinite are the rushdown pair the KOTW era shoved into every lobby. Mephiles shade is the setplay example. Starved and EXE are the grappler pair. Silver is the zoner. Horror-side details for Starved, EXE, Furnace, and Lord X live on Horror. Lane size and rotation notes live on Maps.
How to use the sheet
Write four letters on a notepad: R, S, G, Z. Circle the letter you are. Underline the letter that beat you last set. Then answer five questions. If you cannot answer them, you are not ready to blame balance.
- What is my job on this kit — rushdown, setplay, grappler, or zoner?
- What is their job?
- Is this map large, small, or vertical?
- Which of their buttons is the one I keep eating — a 180-damage string, a homing starter, a shade trap, a grab, a wall?
- What is my one goal this queue — never respect F against an unblockable, never let them have the long lane, never jump into a grab, never awaken in endlag?
Those five lines are the whole tool. The sections below exist so you can name the jobs without opening twelve character pages mid-queue.
Rushdown: Knight of the Wind and Infinite
Rushdown wants the gap closed and a confirm started before you get to play a second button. After the late-2025 update, two names own that sentence.
Knight of the Wind is a full character, not a Sonic palette. Community reports after the showcase put a 180-damage combo on the base kit. On a small rotated map that number is a stock. On a wide hill it is a sprint you can still lose if you dash into the sword. Your planner line against KOTW is: where does the confirm start, and do I have a button that interrupts that start? If you do not know, you are not playing the matchup. You are donating.
Infinite’s base kit shipped in the same patch, still without an ult in that recap. The lobby report that matters is a 180-damage combo plus a homing unblockable combo starter. Unblockable means your F hold is not the answer. Spacing, startup interrupt, and refusing to recover in the homing lane are the answers. Early Access unfinished awakening may still be a heal-and-buff rather than a new super, so do not plan around an Infinite ult you have not seen ship.
Rushdown versus rushdown is a coin flip on a tiny plate and a dash-discipline test on a big hill. If both of you circled R, the planner question becomes who gets the first 180, not who has the prettier cutscene.
Setplay: Mephiles shade
Setplay wants leftover space. Mephiles is the clean example: shade tools, delayed hits, and a reason to make you respect a floor you already cleared. You do not beat setplay by mashing dash into the trap. You beat it by walking through the leftover once on a dummy, then refusing to take the same walk in public.
Planner lines for setplay:
- Which leftover do I keep eating — a shade on the floor, a delayed projectile, a teleport mix?
- Is the map large enough that I can take a longer path, or so small that the leftover is the whole arena?
- Do I have a way to force Mephiles to act first, or am I waiting in F until the trap expires?
Setplay loves medium and large maps because the extra tiles are extra timers. On a box map the same kit starts looking like a rushdown assist. If a Mephiles is beating you on Baseplate-sized floors, you are not losing to zoning. You are losing to a trap in a closet. Mark that on the sheet so you do not go into Maps asking for a Green Hill fix that will not help.
Grappler: Starved and EXE
Grapplers want one locked interaction that skips your block. Starved and EXE are the pair this wiki uses for that job. Horror-page context, including Furnace and Lord X sitting next to them, is on Horror. This planner only cares about the grab-shaped problem.
Community reports after KOTW said Starved’s infinite combo came back. That is not a studio patch line. It is why grappler players queued the character again. If you circled G as the enemy, your questions are: is the command grab real on this kit, is the chase lock real, and is the follow-up a true infinite or a mashable scramble? Lab that on a dummy that can be grabbed. Do not lab it by jumping in a public server.
EXE’s planner line is similar: lock, chase, scare, throw. If you jump because you are scared of the floor trap from a different matchup, you are feeding the grappler. The sheet should say stay grounded if the last death was a grab. It should say jump if the last death was a low shade. Those two notes cannot be the same sentence.
Grapplers get better as maps get smaller and as crowds get denser. A 25-player lobby is already a crowd. A tiny rotation is a gift. If the next map is a closet, consider not locking a grappler-weak kit unless you have a specific anti-grab button you can actually press.
Zoner: Silver
Silver is the zoner example: psychic space, walls, and a reason to make rushdown run through a tax. A later psychic rework exists in public clips; this planner does not invent the new move names. It only needs the job. If the lane is long, Silver is the problem. If the lane is a box, Silver is a midrange mage who can still lose to a homing starter.
Planner lines for zoner:
- What is the wall or projectile I keep walking into?
- Do I have a forward-travel button that actually arrives, or am I dashing into the tax for free?
- If I am Silver, am I wasting the long lane by walking forward like a rushdown?
Zoner versus grappler is a range test. Zoner versus setplay is a who-owns-the-floor test. Zoner versus rushdown is the KOTW-era headline: can Silver spend the 180-damage sprint? If your answer is I will just hold F, reread Infinite’s unblockable line and try again.
Map size modifiers
Map rotations shipped with Knight of the Wind. You do not get to pick the final every time. You do get to change how you fill this sheet when the skybox changes. Use Maps for callouts. Use this table for the planner.
| Map feel | Who it helps | What to write on the notepad |
|---|---|---|
| Large / long lane (Green Hill-style) | Zoner first, setplay second | Rushdown must spend a dash tax. Do not empty your mobility on a fake. |
| Small / box (tight yards, plates) | Grappler and rushdown | 180-damage reports become stocks. Grabs cover the whole floor. |
| Vertical / odd high ground | Whoever has an air chase or a slam | Uppercut-into-boost matters more. Zoner walls may miss a height band. |
| Crowd / 25-player chaos | Grappler lock tools, big AoE | You are not in a duel. Do not awaken in a pile. |
If you do not know the next rotation, plan for small. Small is the harsher modifier. A zoner who is ready to be rushed will still function on a hill. A zoner who only functions on a hill will feed KOTW in a box.
A filled example
You are Silver. Last set a Knight of the Wind killed you twice on a small plate, and an EXE grabbed you once in a crowd. Your sheet should not say Silver is bad. It should say:
- I am Z. They were R then G.
- Map was small, then crowded.
- I ate a rushdown confirm and a grab. I did not eat a shade.
- Goal this queue: save one mobility button to leave the plate, and do not jump when EXE is in the pile.
That is a matchup plan. A Tier List Hub screenshot that only says KOTW is high is not a plan. A horror-page binge without a map note is not a plan. Write the four letters, circle yours, underline theirs, and queue with one goal. After the set, add a single sentence about whether the map modifier was the real problem. Then close the notepad. The planner is finished when it is ugly and specific, not when it looks like a wiki tier graphic.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is this the same as the tier list?
No. The Tier List Hub ranks strength. This planner names jobs: rushdown, setplay, grappler, zoner. A high-tier kit still loses if you ignore map size.
Who counts as rushdown after the KOTW update?
Knight of the Wind and Infinite are the headline pair: 180-damage combo reports, plus Infinite's homing unblockable starter. Other fast kits can still rush; start your sheet with those two.
Where do Starved and EXE notes live?
Use this page for the grappler job, then open Horror for Starved, EXE, Furnace, and Lord X kit context. Do not mix a grab plan with a shade plan.
How does map rotation change a matchup?
Large lanes help Silver and Mephiles leftovers. Small plates help KOTW, Infinite, and grabs. Vertical maps reward uppercut-boost routes. Details sit on Maps.
Do I need a new sheet every title tag?
Only when a new job shows up. [DOOM & BIG ARMS & REVIVAL] is a 2026 prefix, not a reason to invent kits. If a new fighter is clearly a fifth job, add a letter. Until then, R S G Z still works.
